I thought my home state of New York had lots of lakes, including the beautiful Finger Lakes, serene Adirondack lakes and, of course, ocean-like Lake Ontario.

Indeed, I've spent lots of time enjoying Canandaigua Lake over the decades, thanks to good friends who often invited my family or me to make the scenic, 35- to 40-minute trip from Brighton for a visit.

Canandaigua and its environs are gorgeous, to say the least.

And my wife, Andrea, just got a good look at Skaneateles and Seneca lakes. She said they were beautiful.

Now take a look at this 2001 satellite image of the Nunavut Territory in upper Canada, which has millions of lakes, ponds and streams, according to NASA.
